I participated in a 2 hour presentation by Dr. Mazzella on The Grandiose Sense of Self in Individuals with Narcissism. It was very enlightening and fascinating. Dr. Mazzella has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He is also a wonderful presenter!

Thank you again for a lively, informative and substantive seminar!

Your presentation style is so engaging ..

You have a skillful manner in connecting theory and technique!

Your integration of theory, technique, all illustrated with solid clinical examples, was, as usual, stimulating and well presented!

What felt especially helpful was how you started with discussing the pain these patients are in and how they experience such a fragmented sense of self. Their perception distorting reality was a phrase I wrote down more than once!

I felt you started off your discussion with more of a sense of empathy and curiosity.

Your discussion of the development of the false self and how it protects the vulnerable self was a great concept to tie things together in making sense of the patient's experience.

We are an audience that loves to hear about technique - how you understand, and what you do with your understanding. Your discussion of 'leaning in' and getting a good sense of their experience no matter how distorted it appears, was very helpful.

Your subsequent discussion/illustration of confronting (but not being destructive to) the patient and why, helped bring the transference into the work in a meaningful way.

Naming Transference Focused Psychotherapy as a foundation theory was helpful for me to see your theoretical base. You integrated several theorists' concepts in a way that was accessible and useful.
