The role of perfectionism/Grandiosity among medical health professionals – Part 1
In this episode on perfectionism, also known in psychoanalytic terms as grandiosity, we unraveled the complex dynamics of this enduring trait. Perfectionism, defined by relentless pursuit of flawlessness and self-worth contingent on meeting exceptionally high standards, is a predominate and pervasive narcissistic trait. Through a psychoanalytic lens, we delved into object constancy, integration, and drew from Margaret Mahler’s separation-individuation theory. An example was provided to illustrate how these theories come into play when interacting with someone exhibiting narcissistic traits.
